And the winners are...

The 6th to the 8th of October saw the Nottingham International Film Festival 2017 return for its second edition. This year the event, in its inaugural partnership with Nottingham’s new state of the art theatre Showcase Lux, saw an eclectic mix of independent films from all around the world having their World, European and UK premieres over the three day weekend, which saw travelling filmmakers from every corner of the globe representing their films to the enthusiastic crowds of film lovers.

The festival launched on Thursday the 5th with an advanced screening of documentary 8 BIT HEROES which was a massive hit with the sell-out audience at Nottingham’s very own National Video Arcade Museum, the film’s producer travelled from the U.S to answer questions after the screening and the ‘cool ‘n geek’ atmosphere was a great preview to what would come over the vibrant weekend of film.

Opening night on Friday the 6th at the Showcase Lux was another buzzing event with UK feature ACCESS ALL AREAS the first up for the enthusiastic audience to enjoy. Once again the presence of the filmmaker added to the experience and this vein would run right across the weekend with each screening packed with questions and interest. The lively weekend’s highlights included eventual film of the festival, Polish feature RAGE, best documentary ONE NOTE AT A TIME and U.S dark thriller AMERICAN PETS. These features were deservedly awarded in the main categories by the Jury select and were the pick of a well programmed and thought provoking film festival that catered for every taste of independent film.

The second year of this fledgling festival has now set it in good stead to carry its partnership with Showcase Lux forward and continue on bringing some of the best independent films to Nottingham year on year.
